The Vale of White Horse Primary Schools Football Association (VWHPSFA) organises schools’ football in the south of Oxfordshire.
It serves schools in the market towns of Abingdon, Watlington, Wantage, Wallingford, Didcot, Faringdon and surrounding villages. To keep travel to a minimum schools are organised into two regions – Vale East and Vale West.
Our member schools vary in size from large town schools of over 400 pupils, to small village schools of less than 100 pupils. To cater for this each year we organise six leagues and six tournaments for boys and girls. Also schools have the opportunity to enter and compete in the qualifying rounds of the ESFA tournaments. You can keep up to date with competition results and upcoming fixtures via the latest news section of this website.
For 46 years, 1966-2012, the Association ran a very successful representative squad and on the History page you can find a number of notable achievements. However, during the summer of 2012, teams affiliated to the Oxford Mail Boys’ League voted to play Under 11 matches on Saturday mornings in addition to Sunday morning. This move naturally severely restricted the number of players available for the Vale trials and with deep regret it was decided we could no longer maintain a District Team. Throughout the 46 years, it is obvious that some squads were stronger than others, but we always competed and completed our season. However, with so few players to choose from in the Autumn of 2012 it would have been detrimental to the boys to continue.
The Vale wishes to thank all those who played for the District Team, their parents for their support, referees who have willingly officiated our matches, teachers who gave their time and those who accompanied the teams on their Easter Tours.
Finally, you’ll also find a very interesting Vale Reunited feature which traces the football careers of former players that represented the VALE representative squad including Huddersfield Town’s Dean Whitehead and Northampton Town’s Matthew Taylor.
